Flashy Nails

One young lady's attempt to master decent nail art!

Hello Ladies! October 4, 2009

Today’s post is a bit of a mixed post.  I would like to show you my current manicure (which will be Konaded later on today if I remember/can get motivated).  I have copied the one finger different style I have seen on a few blogs lately and basically went for the opposite of what Skye did inThis Post. I really like it:

Nails Inc Brompton Place (pink) and Nails Inc St Johns Wood

Nails Inc Brompton Place (pink) and Nails Inc St John's Wood

Now St John’s wood seemed to be a dupe for Orly Cashmere Cardigan, which in turn is also a dupe for Collection 2000 Hot Looks Button Moon (one of my favourite polishes ever).  So next week if I remember I will swatch the three of them side by side to see what they look like.  But I also realised, when contemplating the similarities of St John’s Wood and Button Moon that in fact Brompton Place reminded me of Collection 2000 Hot Looks Hoola Hoop, thus:

Lr- Hoola Hoop, Brompton Place, St Johns Wood, Button Moon (and a hella lot of sun!)

Lr- Hoola Hoop, Brompton Place, St John's Wood, Button Moon (and a hella lot of sun!)

And this in turn reminded me of an old post I did where I used Button Moon and Hoola Hoop together, amnd they’re really not dissimilar to the post I have put up today with my current manicure.  Here is the old manicure

Well if you’re still reading after all that, and not horribly confused, then you’re doing better than me! lol

I also wanted to point out that Diamond Cosmetics Opal Glitter ROCKS, especially over Black or very dark Blue.  I have a couple of pictures taken from my Diamond swatchboard, but they don’t really show the awesomeness very well and I’m not so hot at describing things, but see what you think:

Diamond Cosmetics Opal Glitter over Diamond Cosmetics Im Raven About You

Diamond Cosmetics Opal Glitter over Diamond Cosmetics I'm Raven About You

See, Fantastic, the blue-yellow-greenness is so gorgeous!  I think this may be a great contender for some slightly less OTT Halloween Nails!

Hope you enjoyed!  Sorry I haven’t posted for a while.

Swatch – Button Moon July 15, 2009

Firstly, thank you all so much for your lovely comments on my wedding pictures!  It’s always nice to hear that your wedding dress is beautiful, and that you look like a great couple, so thank you!

Last night I swatched Button Moon.  I had received some Fimo Fruits from Ebay and really wanted to try them and it was a choice between Button Moon, BMX Bandit or Hoola Hoop for my base colour, and my lovely husband made the choice of Button Moon for me.  Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of it ‘naked’ as it were, because as soon as the second coat started to go tacky I pressed the fruit slices into it.

Application wasn’t as bad as I expected, maybe I’m getting used to cremes now, I just slop a big glob on there and sort of push it around my nail with the brush, rather than brushing it on.  It does mean there’s usually some clean-up to be done though and you don’t get a tidy like around the cuticle, as you’ll see from my pictures.

It is VERY like Streamer by George at Asda, in fact here is a picure of them side by side:

Button Moon is a more aqua green that Streamer, which reminds me of a chalky colour.  Like hospital walls or something.  (I’ve never seen a hospital with walls that colour, it’s just the association I have!)

I’m a bit tired of cremes at the moment so I may hold off swatching any more of the Hot Looks (and I still have Barry M Green Glitter to swatch too), I fancy some China Glaze OMG I think 🙂

Thanks for reading 😀

New Polishes! Collection 2000 Hot Looks. July 11, 2009

I’ve just treated myself – AGAIN – to some new polishes.  7 to be exact.  (Although one of them was a replacement bottle of Hello Sailor (despite it being less than halfway empty).  When I went to buy my bottle of Hello Sailor, I saw that Collection 2000 who make it have released a new range of mini polishes.  The range is called Hot Looks and according to Collection 2000’s website, they are 80’s inspired colours.  Admittedly, my branch of Superdug didn’t have every colour in by the time I saw it yesterday, but I don’t think I’d really say 80s was the first thing that ocurred to me when I saw the range.  I’d have classified it (and still would, actually) as a combination of neons and cremes all in really funky fresh brights.  Although now I’ve written that, I suppose that’s what the current 80s revival is all about so……..*shrugs*

These polishes are in 8ml bottles and they cost £1.75 at Superdrug but are currently on an offer where you can buy two for £2.99.  Either way, with or without the offer, they’re really not a bad price.  So, I bought six!  I have purchased Ninja (a mid green – neither neon nor creme, I’m inclined to say it’s a grass green but I think it’s a little dark for that), Button Moon (which looks a little like Streamer in the bottle – a mint green creme),  BMX Bandit (GORGEOUS looking cornflower blue creme), Dynasty (which I have swatched and reviewed, a lilac creme), Hoola Hoop (which is a sort of coral pink creme) and Vixen (a fuchsia glitter/shimmer, kind of neon I suppose).
