Flashy Nails

One young lady's attempt to master decent nail art!

My polish collection (picture heavy) October 14, 2009

Okay ladies, I am about to post pictures of my polish collection – they’re not exactly the best in terms of quality or colour accuracy but here they are.  I’m so used to looking at all my colours that I’m finding it difficult to choose what to wear when I change my polish so I would like some help!  Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think I should wear next.  I will be able to go through them one at a time to select my next manicure and the one after that etc (assuming I get any comments lol)

You may notice I have a few issues with blue/green and blue/purple colours, I have a slight colour blindness so if you think anything is in the wrong group that’s why!

Oh and to save me typing long long names, DC = Diamond Cosmetics, CG = China Glaze,  BM = Barry M, C2000 = Collection 2000,  C2000HL = Collection 2000 Hot Looks, SH = Sally Hansen and NI = Nails Inc!

Playing Catch Up September 7, 2009

Hi Ladies!  Sorry I haven’t posted in a while, and when I have done it hasn’t been with any pictures of nails but I’m playing catch up today.  Just a quick note for those of you who are waiting for Diamond from me, it still hasn’t arrived but I will let you know when it does!

Ok first things first, today I received a parcel from the wonderful Kris who writes for Polish or Perish and I was gobsmacked! We’d arranged a little swap as Kris wanted to get her hands on some Stargazer, and I was desperate for Orly Cashmere Cardigan and China Glaze Lubu Heels. What I didn’t expect was the SIX extra polishes she included!! Thank you so much Kris!! Here is a little (not very good) picture of the goodies she sent me:

Cosmo Porsche Red | Lubu Heels | Sinful Colors San Francisco | Cashmere Cardigan | Milani Cloud 9 | Jade Suppressed Temptation | Piggy Polish Island Hopping | Massini Sheer Denim

Cosmo "Porsche Red" | Lubu Heels | Sinful Colors "San Francisco" | Cashmere Cardigan | Milani "Cloud 9" | Jade "Suppressed Temptation" | Piggy Polish "Island Hopping" | Massini "Sheer Denim"

Here is the lovely mani I was wearing a few days ago:

Sorry about the lines in that lact picture, that happens sometimes when I take pictures under my desk lamp for some reason.  The pink is Collection 2000 Hot Looks Vixen.  I can’t take credit for the loveliness of this though as I totally ripped it off from the FAB KonADDICT blog, which is an absolutely brilliat resource for all you nail art-ers out there.

And this little beauty which turned out SO CUTE if I do say so myself, was all my own creation.  In case you’re interested, I used Barry M in White, the Red was my “no name” from a make-up kit, Barry M Orange Block, Miss Sporty Yellow, Collection 2000 Hot Looks Ninja, Rimmel Azure, Stargazer 125 and Barry M Vivd Purple.  From that list of colours I bet you can guess what I made……

Awesome Cute-Kitsch!! Love this!

How totally awesome is that manicure!!  If it hadn’t taken me over an hour I’d totally be doing it again at some point in the future!!!

Thanks for reading.  I hope you all have a fantastic week!  Mine has got off to a great start!  😀

Swatch: Barry M Blue Glitter July 10, 2009

Wowza! I do love the red more, lots more, but the blue is also something pretty darn special!! These polishes look SO beautiful in sunlight it’s unreal! And yes, Glittermillie I did have a nightmare getting it off – the red moreso than the blue, but I found it to be a little easier if you put plenty of remover on a cotton pad, make it pretty soaking, then hold it against the nail for a couple of minutes, just still before you start moving it across your nail. It seemed to help me. I still used 12 cotton pads (both side of each) taking this off, as I did with the red! (I can usually remove two hands worth of polish on about 4 pads.)

Anyway here are some pictures, I did use a funky French on this again, M44, tried to do them all on an angle again and managed to accidentally get two of them straight, typically when I didn’t want them straight I managed to do it!

That bottom picture is indoors under electric light not natural.  The weird thing about this polish (that i found) is that you can paint it on and it can be totally dry but if you haven’t topcoated it, it’s really easy to take a chunk out of it by accident.  There’s so much glitter in it, it doesn’t seem to dry hard like polish, so you really need the TC to seal it.  You can see on my ring finger in the second picture, I’d knocked it whilst answering the door before I started Konading, so there was no TC on, and a big old hole appeared in the polish 😦

…And with some Konad… July 7, 2009

I finally got around to Konading over the super amazing glittery red, the red didn’t suck all the gloss out of this badboy!  Yay!!

The Konad Top Coat has made it super SUPER shiny and glittery and red….I’m even more in love with it now!

:-O Red and Sparkle!!!

So here it is!  I can’t stop looking at my fingers!  This polish is just freakin’ AWESOME!

How amazing can one polish be!!  I still have the blue and green to swatch but this one will be staying until at least tomorrow (I daren’t leave it much longer than that as I think it may stain, despite me putting two coats of base on instead of my usual one.)

It has a weird sort of matt texture on the nail – it is so jam-packed with micro glitter that it stays fairly rough but not in a horrible way.  I top coated it, and it made it extra shiny, but then it kind of absorbed most of the gloss out of the top coat so I don’t think it would be possible to have this feeling all smooth on the nail like ordinary polish.  But seriously, HOW amazing is it!!  I think I’m going to be brave and try to Konad over it.  Not sure how well it will work with the surfact not being smooth, but that would be awesome if I could get a funky french on here, so if it doesn’t go horribly I will update with more pictures later 🙂

Birthday Hoard! July 6, 2009

Today is my 26th birthday!  I generally don’t get gifts as I never ever know what I want, so people are amazingly kind enough to gift me money and then I still never know what I want!  However I have been coveting some polishes for a while so I treated myself!

Here’s the full hoard:

L-R: Barry M Red Glitter 150 (this is the one I’ve been LUSTING after.  I love it.  I guess it’s similar to Ruby Pumps?  [Is that the right name?]), Barry M Blue Glitter (there is no sticker so I don’t know what number it is),  Barry M Green Glitter (very imaginative names as you can see) 298, Beauty UK  no40 – Silver, and Beauty UK  no45 – Purple.

The Barry M red I’ve had my eye on for ages, then I saw a friend wearing the blue and green and decided to have them too.  I bought the two Beauty UK ones because they were cheap (£1.49 per bottle) and I don’t have a silver glitter, and the purple one was soo pretty!

So I wore the purple one and have swatched that, I didn’t put it on over a base because I wanted to see how it looked, here are some shots,, these are all indoors not under sunlight but the colour tones are pretty spot-on.

I have taken that off now and swatched the red, and I’m speechless! It’s amazing and I LOVE IT.  However as it’s now nighttime there’s obviously no sunlight.  I tried takingpictures under the inside lights and the colours were just wrong, and then when I tried to use flash, the flash beam stopped the camera from focusing.  So fingers crossed for sun and no rain tomorrow!
